We are expecting to see the next generation iPhone device make an earlier than normal appearance over the summer months of this year. Even though we are still quite away from the arrival of the iPhone 5S there is already talk of the iPhone 6, the model set to be unveiled in 2014. Thanks to a new job advertisement from Apple we have some idea about the type of screen that this new phone may offer.
We have heard numerous rumours over the past few weeks about various mobile manufacturers looking into using flexible display technology on future smartphones. This latest job posting from Apple indicates that the American company are also exploring this avenue and following the posting reports are suggesting that the iPhone 6 will be the model on which the technology debuts. It has also been suggested that such displays may also feature on the new iWatch that the company is set to release. The actual posting mentions that they are seeking to recruit a specialist who will “lead the investigation on emerging display technologies such as high optical efficiency LCD , AMOLED and flexible display”. It is believed that development of flexible display technology is moving forward at a rapid rate. Just a few days ago Apple registered a patent for a curved iPhone screen which will obviously look to incorporate the new type of display that they are keen to develop.
There have been some suggestions that the new screen technology set to be developed by Apple is set to appear on the forthcoming iPhone 5S although an appearance on the iPhone 6 is more likely. It has been reported that the 5S which is due to arrive this summer is more of an incremental update which will focus on feature and software improvements. The iPhone 6 however is set to be a complete overhaul of the iPhone platform and this is set to be released in 2014. This is the more likely candidate for a new curved display and the distant release date also gives developers plenty of time to perfect these new types of screen.
We are set to see a number of changes introduced on the new iPhone 5S this year but really major changes are set to be saved for the iPhone 6 which looks likely to include a new curved display.
