In the smartphone market, Apple remains one of the most high profile brands, and has been for a number of years. Of course, the company has its iconic iPhone range to thank. While the current iPhone 5 model has certainly had its fair share of problems since it was launched back in September, it remains one of the most sought after smartphone models on the market, and arguably one of the most innovative.
The popularity of the iPhone line has naturally led to widespread speculation about what Apple has in store for 2013. The California based manufacturer has not made any official announcements about its plans, but numerous rumours have suggested that the company will be launching two new iPhone models this year. The latest rumours suggest that the iPhone 6 will be the first phablet style smartphone from the manufacturer.
This is according to an article published over at uSwitch, which has reported on claims from an insider at a Chinese component manufacturer for Apple, who claims to have seen the iPhone 6 prototype in the flesh, and has said that the phone is much larger than the iPhone 5.
Clearly, this source is not the most credible but it certainly coincides with recent speculation. It would make sense if Apple was to launch a phablet phone, given Apple’s long standing feud with Samsung which remains the market leader in the phablet niche on account of its popular Galaxy Note series. With such smartphones becoming more and more popular, one made by Apple would obviously see huge demand. The iPhone 6 is currently rumoured to sport a 5 inch display, which although smaller than that of the original Samsung Galaxy Note, shows a considerable increase in size from the 4 inch display of the iPhone 5.
It is likely that more information about the iPhone 6 will become available in coming weeks, so we will be sure to keep you updated when we hear of any developments.
