Now that the iPhone 5 has been available for several months, it has naturally led to speculation regarding the next instalment of Apple’s iconic smartphones series. Recent rumours have suggested that Apple will be launching two new smartphones this year, which are the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6, rumours which have been backed up by a number of prominent industry analysts and other sources.
GottaBeMobile has recently reported on one of the latest rumours regarding the iPhone 6, suggesting that it will include a feature which has not been included on an iPhone before. The information comes about due a job posting on Apple’s website, seeking an engineer to ‘write low-level code to configure and control hardware’, and is based at the Authentic headquarters in Melbourne, Florida. Authentic is a fingerprint security technology company which Apple purchased last year for a reported $365,000,000.
This certainly suggests that Apple is planning to utilise this feature on upcoming products, and because it has not yet been used on an iPhone, it does seem more likely. While this feature would of course allow users to unlock the screen without entering a PIN, it also has several other potential applications, ranging from logging into websites and social networking applications, to authenticating online payments.
